First xAI API model to accept video input (up to 5 minutes, 1080p, per secondary coverage), with document generation (PDF, spreadsheet, slides) and always-on reasoning. API list price cut roughly 40-58% versus Grok 4.20.

Beta was 2026-04-17 (grok.com, SuperGrok), the public API 2026-04-30 and general availability the week of 2026-05-04, while Wikipedia says April 2026. xAI's own launch post was not found.
