o3-pro, a higher-compute o3, ships at $20/$80 per million tokens while o3 itself drops 80% to $2/$8.
o3-pro spends more compute per answer for reliability on hard questions and is Responses-API only. The same day o3 fell from $10/$40 to $2/$8 per million tokens for the same model, which OpenAI attributed to inference optimization, undercutting Claude Sonnet 4 and matching GPT-4.1.
