Record labels sue Suno and Udio
Major labels, coordinated by the RIAA, sued Suno (Massachusetts) and Udio (New York) for training on copyrighted recordings, seeking up to $150,000 per work.
The case that forced AI music toward licensing. Udio settled with Universal (2025-10-29) and Warner (2025-11-19), Suno settled with Warner (2025-11-25) and BMG (2026-08), and Universal and Sony remained plaintiffs against Suno in 2026.
