Orpheus, Dia and Chatterbox (open TTS wave)
Three permissively licensed expressive TTS models arrived in six weeks. They were Canopy's Orpheus (Mar), Nari's Dia 1.6B (Apr) and Resemble's Chatterbox (Apr).
Open-weights speech models with emotion tags, dialogue and zero-shot cloning narrowed the gap to ElevenLabs, and Chatterbox (MIT) passed 1.6M downloads. Hugging Face creation dates are Orpheus 2025-03-17, Dia 2025-04-20, Chatterbox 2025-04-24.
