Devin-assisted RSA-260 factoring

Cognition · 9 September 2026

Cognition claims Devin helped build a GPU lattice siever that factored the 260-digit RSA-260 challenge in about 4,900 GPU-days (~$400k).

A showcase of long-horizon agent work on a research-grade systems task. Devin rewrote much of a GNFS pipeline (siever 'glas'), with an engineer steering through about 3,300 messages. The previous record was RSA-250 in 2020.
